NSPA INTRODUCES MULTIMEDIA STORY OF THE YEAR CONTEST

Contact: contests@studentpress.org

The National Scholastic Press Association is pleased to announce a new Individual Awards contest this year: Multimedia Story of the Year. This contest’s categories include News, Feature and Sports. All NSPA member print and online publications qualify for entry.

In previous years NSPA had a single multimedia category within the print Story of the Year contest. After seeing a dramatic increase in multimedia submissions over the past two years NSPA created a separate contest in order to better recognize excellent student work in multimedia reporting.

Entries to the Multimedia Story of the Year contest may be submitted online. There is a limit of two entries per category for each member publication. The contest deadline is Friday, June 15, 2012, and the finalists will be announced in September 2012.

Tips On How To Win Writing Contests Online | Tax Articles …

May 8th, 2012

Winning a writing contest is never a sure thing unless it is fixed and that is just not fair to the public. When you enter such a contest, you assume that everything is going to be done fairly and rightfully so. This means that no matter how simple the topic seems, you need to submit your best writing. This is especially true if you are paying an entry fee. There is nothing wrong with paying such a fee or the organization asking for one. However, you do want to give yourself a chance to win if this is the case.
Since there is no magic formula to winning writing contests, you might be wondering how you can give yourself a better chance. There are legitimate ways of doing this. There is no cheating involved but there is some reading and some effort instead.
Read the competition rules thoroughly and make sure that you understand them. There may be two sets of guidelines. There may be a general set for the website and there may be another set for the specific contest. Read both before starting your writing. Make sure that you understand the topic completely and what you are expected to write about.
When you have the topic figured out and what you are going to write the specific piece on, don’t forget to use a bit of creativity. Get the reader’s attention and keep it. This is how the continual writing contest winner does it. They know how to get the attention and keep it all the way through the piece no matter if it is an article, poem or short story. You don’t have to be elaborate – sometimes simple is better. However, make sure that it is interesting.
After completing the writing process, leave it for a little while and come back to proofread it. Get someone else to look at it and get their honest opinion. This will help you a lot in the long run. They may even find mistakes that you missed. Make any revisions and read it again. Keep on going over it if need be but make sure that there are no errors.
Lastly, submit the work on time. Check the deadline and have the work in before that time comes around. Be sure to include any personal information that is required such as your name, address, email and any other details. Do not give out bank information, social security numbers or other such things. These organizations do not need it.
This is just a general guideline on how to increase your chances of winning writing contests. Now it is up to you to get involved and maybe even win some extra cash.

VisitRichmond.org Spring Photo Contest – Visit Richmond & Wayne …

May 8th, 2012

Wayne County Convention & Tourism Bureau’s 2012 Spring Photo Contest

Sponsored by Jade Matters Photography

Last summer we held our first ever photo contest and received over 500 wonderful photos taken in Wayne County during the summer months.  Because the contest was so successful in illustrating the beauty of Wayne County, and it also helped us increase our Facebook fan base so well, we’re holding a Spring Photo Contest through the end of May 2012.

Our main purpose for holding our photo contests is to help build our digital photo library, for use online (facebook, website, blogs), print publications (i.e. brochures, visitors guides, postcards, calendars, etc.) or photo exhibits in the area.  We love using photographs that were taken by visitors and residents of the places and activities they love.  These photo contests also help us develop the public’s awareness of and interest in Wayne County’s varied attractions and activities; increase awareness and appreciation of Wayne County’s landscapes, cityscapes and architecture; increase our interactions with Wayne County residents and visitors and their appreciation of art and art-related activities, and IT’S ALOT FUN!

Here is what you need to know if you would like to submit photos to the contest:

Photos are to be of attractions, historical and artistic exhibits/displays, public art, landscapes, cityscapes, streetscapes, historical buildings, etc. and people engaged in activities/actions — either as spectators or participants — at Wayne Co. events and attractions (museums, parks, restaurants, festivals, fairs, concerts, shops, wineries, chocolate attractions, etc.).

Below is a good example of the kind of action photo we would like to see.  We want people participating in an activity, not just posing for a photo, at a recognizable Wayne County attraction.

Original photos (at least 300 dpi) will be submitted via the www.visitrichmond.org website (click on Spring Photo Contest) or disk/jumpdrive between April 1 and June 8, 2012. Mini (weekly or bi-weekly) challenges will be announced via Facebook and on our website to help direct participants to focus on a specific theme, topic, location or activity. Small prizes (i.e. Wayne County Discount Cards, Wayne County souvenirs, etc.) may be awarded during the mini challenges to the best/favorite photo for the specific challenge, to be judged by internal judges. At the end of the contest one Grand Prize Winner will be selected by a panel of judges and will receive prizes to be donated by area attractions and businesses. The Grand Prize Winner may or may not be selected from the mini challenge winners.

Many but not all of the photos will be shared on Facebook, in our blog posts, on our Flickr account, and by other means. The best photos will be used in our print and web publications.

This photo was submitted recently to the Spring Photo Contest

The Grand Prize Winner will receive:
